Ice racing between a D-Type and a 356 is pretty cool.

Notice how the Porsche is facing head on because of   it not even having enough power to break the wheels free the immense amount of amazing rear-engine traction it has.

That D-Type chassis number XKD 530 was originally purchased by Finnish racer Kurt Lincoln in 1956. He had asked the factory to deliver it artificially aged so he could convince the Finnish tax authorities that it was a used car. He raced couple of years with it but eventually sold it away. The next owners took it ice racing. The picture is likely taken in 1963.

The car left Finland in 1966 w hen wealthy Jaguar collector Nigel Moores bought it. The 10 years of Finnish racing hadn’t been easy and the car was in quite horrible condition. Nigel had the car rebodied the gave it a more powerful engine.

At some point Nigel had sold away the extra parts to Jaguar restorer John Harper. He used the original dented body, engine and a reproduction chassis to make a complete car for historic racing . So now the world had two XKD 530 Jaguars. This started to annoy historing racing scene in 80's. After couple of decades of controversy Gary Bartlett acquired both XKD 530s in 2002 and used them to make a genuine XKD 530. I’m not sure what happened to the other parts but likely they were used to make another car.

In 2013 XKD 530 was sold in an auction for 4.6 M€.

The 356 belonged originally to one Finnish magazine but it has gone missing. It was likely likely sold outside Finland .

I’m late to seeing this, but thats freaking awesome. After reading the last open road as a teen, a Jaguar C-Type (unrealistic) or XK120 (more realistic) has become my dream car. Such good looks, modern enough to make me happy and quick enough to have tons of fun. That and a Hudson Hornet Hollywood will be enough classics to keep me happy
